Types of Artistic Make-Up

The artistic make up is completely different form the makeup we do ourselves. It may be stronger and it should accent some features of the face. Nowadays, artistic make-up can be divided into two categories: theatrical make up and special effects one. In the theatrical also called stage make up the beauty products used has to be quite strong and they have to reflect stage light so that people from the back row can see the actor’s face expression. This kind of makeup is usually very strong and the actors featured are strongly accented. The makeup artist often uses the the false lashes and a lipstick in deep colour to make the performer more visible.

The second type, special effect make up is often called: Prosthetic makeup or the 3D makeup. This type of look cannot be achieved only with the help of cosmetics; therefore, the makeup artist uses plaster casting, prosthetics, ooze, fake blood and many other tools. The aim of this make up is to give an actor fantasy appearance. It is common that the artist has to transform young actors face into the old man’s one or the other way round. This type of makeup is widely used in horror films or thrillers where the makeup artist transform different fake parts of the body in such a way that they look very natural. This job is very demanding and it happens that doing the 3D makeup may take several hours before it is ready.

Artistic Make-Up Step by Step

If you cannot draw a straight line with the liquid eyeliner, do not worry. If you would like to play with colours and shapes, make sure you uses our tips and tricks. Forget about the base and the foundation. Take your eye shadows in vibrant colours. Apply the yellow shadow on the upper and lower eyelid. In the inner corners of your eyes, apply a generous amount of orange tone shadow. In the outer corner, use the blue shadow. Then, draw a thick line with your deep black eyeliner. Make sure that you draw the line upwards so that the eye seems bigger. Do not forget about fake lashes. They will add dimension to your gaze.
