Day & night cream – what does it mean?

By CN!

beauty.jpgInstead of the terms “moisturizing cream” or “mattifying cream”, we often encounter other categories, such as “day cream” and “night cream”. To find out how day cream and night cream differ from each other, you need to know what their properties and composition are.

Day cream – properties and composition

Day cream contains substances that neutralize the effects of sunlight and free radicals. The best antioxidants are vitamins A, C and E, which also prevent wrinkles and smooth and soften the skin. In addition, day cream should moisturize the skin exposed to drying.

Day cream must contain a sunscreen, minimum SPF 15. The presence of active ingredients such as retinol, kinetin and peptides, oxygen, fruit acids, coenzyme Q and active copper is equally important. Retinol, kinetin and peptides regenerate the epidermis and reduce wrinkles, fruit acids unclog pores, eliminate discolouration and increase collagen production, coenzyme Q neutralizes free radicals and firms the skin, while active copper firms the epidermis.

Night cream – properties and composition

Night cream must be much richer and more intense than the day cream. Instead of protecting the skin from UV rays and other external factors, it should regenerate, nourish and strengthen it, which is why it contains plant extracts, minerals and concentrated vitamins. Thanks to them, the fight against free radicals is more effective and the skin becomes nourished.

Every night cream should contain vegetable oils, hyaluronic acid, collagen, ceramides, glycerin, retinol, proteins and soy. Vegetable oils, for example, jojoba, avocado or shea butter, regenerate the natural hydro-lipid layer of the skin. Hyaluronic acid, collagen, ceramides and glycerin retain moisture in the epidermis. Retinol, proteins and soy provide cell renewal. Some of these substances also occur in day creams, but in much smaller concentrations. Night creams are more intense than day creams, which is why their action is stronger and more effective, which allows for better skin regeneration.
