How was it with vitamin C?

Vitamin C is essential for proper functioning of our organism. Unfortunately, we aren’t able to produce it ourselves therefore we need to deliver it with food products and supplements. The very first form of this vitamin that was discovered was L-ascorbic acid. Cosmetics with its content turned out to be ineffective because this substance was unstable and it took vitamin C fast to evaporate when exposed to oxygen. For that reason, there were many other variations of vitamin C developed that are now used in the present-day cosmetology.

Types of vitamin C

The most popular form of vitamin C is ascorbic acid. Unfortunately, it isn’t fully stable and is included in the preparations of low pH. These, in turn, aren’t suitable to be used for treating sensitive and allergy-prone skin. Also, skin with damaged hydro-lipid barrier shouldn’t be exposed to this form of vitamin C. On the other hand, people having oily and thick skin will find ascorbic acid useful.

The most stable, well-absorbed by organism and the best form of vitamin C is called Tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate. It is fat-soluble unlike other derivatives that are water-soluble. It can be used to treat sensitive skin but it can also clog oily skin (it is available only in oil form).

How to boost efficiency of vitamin C? Some producers hide either the vitamin or its derivatives in liposomes. In most cases, these are balls inside which there is an active substance additionally coated with a tiny balls of fat. Owning to such a formula, the substance penetrates skin deeply and affects it better.

How to use vitamin C?

Serum featuring vitamin C should be applied at bedtime. During a day, it’s suggested using a cream containing UV filter because of the graduate reduction of this substance as the aftermath of being exposed to sun rays. In short, vitamin C shouldn’t be combined with acids. Such a mixture can deliver an irritative action to skin. Therefore, for better results and for the sake of beautifying purposes, it’s suggested enriching diet with fruit and vegetables that contain vitamin C and these are: black currants, wild rose, strawberries, grapefruit, pepper, cabbage, spinach and parsley.
